From October 17th through October 19th is our next big adventure for our VIPs. Please contribute to our success by sponsoring a VIP or a caregiver to go to the outer banks. The cost is $60 for a VIP and $85 for a sighted person. You are the ones that make this possible.
Sponsored by the First Flight, Nags Head, Manteo, Wanchese, Columbia, Currituck, Lower Currituck and Plymouth Lions clubs, the North Carolina Lions VIP Fishing Tournament attracts over 500 blind and visually impaired people, along with their guests, ages 12 to 91 to the Outer Banks. The tournament which draws people from 77 counties, is the largest gathering of blind and visually impaired people in North Carolina.
VIP participants arrive on the Outer Banks on a Monday, are housed in local motels, have six meals, go fishing on two head boats and four ocean fishing piers for a day of recreation; they participate in seminars and independent living training, and visit with vendors. The closing awards banquet on Wednesday night offers motivation and awards. More than 250 Lions and volunteers follow the same schedule as they assist the VIPs throughout the three-day annual event. The project has grown from a local tournament serving 12 blind children to the 525 participants of today.
