CAMP DOGWOOD MAINTENANCE ENDOWMENT
The ability to participate in sports and recreation is an opportunity that most people take for granted, but for the visually impaired, facilities and programs are far more limited. Camp Dogwood, located on Lake Norman in Catawba County, was founded in 1967. This 54 acre campus is maintained as a resort facility for the blind and visually impaired. The camp was constructed to provide an enriching recreational experience with the safety and welfare of the camper in mind.
In recent years special sessions have been held for deaf/blind campers. Earnings from this endowment provide funds for the maintenance and preservation of the camp.
The ultimate goal of the Foundation is to eliminate preventable blindness. In co-operation with State Universities and Medical Centers, a variety of research projects have been funded. Hope for vision in future generations comes from our investment today in clinical eye research. The goal of eye research, whether it is performed in a laboratory or in a clinical setting, is to provide clinicians with improved treatments for various eye diseases. You can make a difference in people’s lives.
Each year thousands of lives are touched by the programs and services offered through the North Carolina Lions Foundation. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided white canes, free of charge, to the visually impaired in North Carolina. Educational grants are provided to sighted students of visually impaired parents. Radio Reading Service, production of Braille and large print materials, Independent Living training and the VIP Fishing Tournament are a few of the programs and services supported by the Foundation. The See the 21st Century Vision Van provides free vision screenings in communities across North Carolina. Your support of this endowment will ensure that these will continue in the future.
The NCLF is proud that only seven percent of its budget goes to pay necessary administrative costs. Our goal is that our entire operating budget goes to programs and services. This will be realized when our administrative endowment will generate enough interest to pay all administrative costs.
