As we approach the holiday season I would like to wish my fellow Lions a happy, safe, and rewarding holiday season. As we Lions share our many blessing with those less fortunate we all receive the satisfaction of helping our fellow man kind. We as Lions need to continue to do the great things as we have always done and continue the great work well into the future.
I will discuss briefly the district convention which was held during the month of November and the Council and NCLI meeting. On November 5th the District Convention was held at the Pinehurst Hampton Inn and Suites. This year the convention was one day long and a good time was had by all. Dr. Gary Anderson the International Director from Michigan gave an informative and inspirational talk. Also the IPIP Sid Scruggs was able to attend the meeting. Those individuals that attended the meeting stated that they liked the new format, but that we might want to hold the convention in January. At the convention the following individuals were elected to be the incoming officers for the 2012-2013 Lion year. Dr. Randy Kirby – District Governor, Vince Schimmoller – 1st Vice District Governor, and Ken Smith 2nd Vice District Governor. I wish all the success to these individual as they lead the district to bigger and better opportunities.
On November 11-13 I attended the Council of Governors Meeting and the NCLI meeting. The following items were discussed and approved by the Council of Governors: approved the 2013 State Convention to be held at the Greensboro-High Point Marriott Hotel, approved plans for the 2012 State Convention, and recommended that NCLI submit a matching grant of $75,000 for a new vision van. NCLI board of directors approved the recommendation that NCLI submit to LCI for a matching grant. There was also a great concern about matching funds and medicaid re-imbursement. It appears that medicaid will no longer cover eye examinations or glasses for individuals over 21. This could put a burden on both local clubs and NCLI matching funds.
Once again I wish all a happy holiday season.
