Lions, LCIF Open Nursing School in Haiti

We strive to improve the health in the 206 countries where we serve. Lions and the Lions Clubs International Foundation provide vital immunizations for children, supply clean water to villages and eliminate preventable causes of blindness. In the wake of a disaster, these services become critical.

Lions and LCIF were on the scene after the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010. In the months following, we assembled tent villages while building homes for displaced families. Two years later, we are providing for the long-term needs of Haitians by opening the National Nursing School of Port-Au-Prince.

In a moving ceremony last month, Lions, government officials, school administrators and the French Red Cross came together to inaugurate the center. The school will educate 350 much-needed nurses each year. LCIF provided US$368,421, or 27 percent, of the total project cost for construction and equipment expenses.
