Indiana Girl Wins Lions Essay Contest for the Visually Impaired

Lions have a long history of supporting people with visual impairments and international cooperation. The Lions International Essay Contest encourages kids with visual challenges, ages 11 to 13, to express their thoughts about peace. Through the Peace Poster Contest, our clubs have also allowed children around the world to depict their thoughts on peace for almost 25 years.

This year, Mikaela Smith’s essay on the theme, “Children Know Peace,” took the top prize in the essay contest. The 12-year-old girl from Indiana will join the 13-year –old Peace Poster Contest grand prize winner, Trisha Co Reyes of the Philippines, to be honored at Lions Day with the United Nations on March 16.

Together, the girls will demonstrate the commitment of young people to building a better future.
