Developing and nurturing our youth is essential to creating thoughtful, caring leaders and contributing members of society. Our clubs support this effort through programs such as Lions Quest, Leo clubs, Youth Camp and Exchange Programs and specific projects that are part of our Engaging our Youth Global Service Action Campaign. This week’s photo was taken at the United Nations Friday as Lions from around the world celebrated the accomplishments of the winners of our International Essay Contest and Peace Poster Contest.
In this photo, International President Wing-Kun Tam joins Trisha Co Reyes, 13, and Mikaela Smith, 12, on stage at Lions Day with the United Nations. Trisha, from the Philippines, took the grand prize of this year’s Peace Poster Contest with her depiction of the theme, “Children Know Peace.” Mikaela, from Indiana, USA, impressed judges with her essay on the same theme. The girls were also joined by Katharine Wu, a Peace Poster Contest Merit Award Winner from Connecticut, USA, who was also recognized at the event. Trisha and Mikaela delivered moving speeches to the assembled Lions, Leos and dignitaries.
