It has been a real treat to see the work that clubs have done for the past three years as I served as your Vice District Governor and Governor. The clubs have provided needed services to the local community as well as raising money for White Cane/Humanitarian. On the first day of April the good Lions of North Carolina have raised over one half million dollars for the White Cane/Humanitarian fund, way to go LIONS.

Lion Wing-Kun Tam, International President theme for 2011 – 2012 “I BELIEVE”. Tam states that Lions Clubs International has made a difference like no other service organization in the world.
During the past year International President Wing-Kun Tam continued with the four Global Service Action Campaigns of Sid Scruggs, spotlighted the needs and potential of young people, blindness prevention, worldwide hunger and protecting the environment resulting in direct service to more than 11.6 million people worldwide. President Tam expanded our Environment Campaign to challenge Lions to plant one million trees during his year as President and the Lions exceeded his goal. Our district participated in this project and planted several hundred trees.

My theme for 2011-2012 was “SERVICE WITH PRIDE”. During the year I observed individual Lions making a difference and change the world more than we could ever imagine.

One of my goals for 2011-2012 was to have at least 50% of the clubs in the district to have a website by March 15, 2012. Through the work of 2nd DG Elect Ken Smith the district had accomplished and exceeded my goal with 100% of the clubs having their own website. Our district website previously was maintained by an outside contractor. The district website will now is maintained by Lion Ken Smith which saves the district money and changes can be made in a timely manner.

Another goal for the district is for each club to have a minimum gain of one member. If we can do this throughout the district we would have an increase of 46 members. To date 9 clubs have met this goal.

Lions care. Lions have always cared. Your contributions enabled our district, state and North Carolina Lions Inc. to help hundreds of blind and visually impaired individual here and millions of people around the world. By working together, we will make a difference. Remember that people need canes, glasses and help all year long.

Remember the upcoming events, NCLI meeting on May 6th at Camp Dogwood, State Convention on May 18-20 in Charlotte, 4th Cabinet meeting to be held during the state convention on May 20th and finally the Awards and Induction Ceremony on May 26th.
Again thank you for entrusting your District to me for the 2011-2012 Lion year.

DG Denny Buchter
