Happy May Budget Woes

As always, thank you for all you are doing for the citizens of you local communities, your state and the world as a whole.
As I write this, I am sitting in the NCLI budget meeting for the coming 2012-2013 fiscal year. This is a painful process and money is short. What is not short is a spirit of cooperation and goodwill. I am happy to report to the membership that everyone here is doing everything they can to lower expenses and control cost. There is an understanding that as membership is down and the economy remains shaky, realism is needed in what is being asked from the clubs and club members. So here’s the plan for District 31F for next year. These numbers may change.
Lions Humanitarian Services $90.00 (formerly White Cane)
Clinical Eye Research $ 1.00 (No current requests)
Boys and Girls Home $10.00
Youth Outreach $ 0.00 (No state chair)
LCI Awards $ 1.00
Radio Reading $ 1.00
Leader dog $ 1.00
MIRA dog $ 1.00
VIP fishing tourney $ 1.00 (This may have to increase)
District Convention $ 0.00 (We don’t need it)
Total: $100.00

Sell three books of Camp Dogwood Tickets

This is a reduction of $11.00 per member for the next year. I understand that the Lions of NC have a fairly advanced case of donor fatigue. Other than reducing the governor’s goals, I will be working on other initiatives to ease the stress.

There is a movement to change the term “White Cane” to “Lions Humanitarian Services.” White Cane is a misnomer that is confusing to our members and opaque to the general public. It should be done away with as soon as practical. The 31F Lions Humanitarian Services Kickoff on July 14th will use the new name.

There is another movement to make sure that our members are properly thanked and appreciation shown for their efforts. I promise you now, that I am/will be the leader of this movement.

I’m too tired to do a joke, there’s nothing funny about a budget meeting.

Thank you for all of the wonderful work you have done over the last month. Lions make a difference in their communities and all over this world! I’m proud to be a part of it and proud to be associated with you. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please contact me directly at:

It is my pleasure to serve our district’s humanitarian goals with you.

Randy Kirby
1st Vice District Governor
