Somewhere in the world, a person goes blind every five seconds, and your efforts can help to stop this trend. Each October, Lions have an opportunity to show the strength and impact of our global network through participation in a special service action campaign, “Sharing the Vision.” The reason I joined the Lillington Lions Club was because of the service projects they were doing for those in the community that were visually impaired. Most potential members don’t care about by-laws, meetings or awards, but they do want to serve. Here are a few “Sharing the Vision” project ideas to get you started: Work with local eye care professionals to organize an eye health and safety presentation for school children. Arrange recreational activities, such as bowling, fishing or swimming, for visually impaired people in your community. Organize a vision screening event or eyeglass recycling campaign in your community. Volunteer to read books and periodicals for blind and visually impaired persons. No matter what activity that your club decides to do please remember to takes pictures and send me the information for our website and next newsletter.
