I would like to thank all of you that attended the District 31F mid-winter convention at the Hampton Inn& Suites on Feb. 2. I was very pleased with the presentations from the various clubs and the participation from the Lions in the audience. I would like to share with you several items of upcoming events.
BOYS AND GIRLS HOME
Lions Work Day at the Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina will be held on Saturday, April 13. This is a good time for Lions from District 31F to interact with residents and other Lions. If you are planning on participating, please arrive between 8:30 am and 9:00 am for assignments. Please also bring work gloves, gardening tools, and anything you feel will assist in the cleanup of the grounds. Two years ago, a major clean up was done of the inside and outside of the cottage, including the kitchen and teaching parents apartment. Last year, painting in other parts of the campus was done. Cleaning up out-side and landscaping is almost always a task. A cookout will be held at noon.
EYE DONOR AWARENESS MONTH
March is Eye Donor Awareness Month. It’s a special time to honor donors and their families for the tremendous gift of sight they give to improve the lives of corneal recipients. The transplant process depends on the priceless corneal donation from one human to another. Donated eyes are also needed for research and education. Through the Lions Clubs Eye Banks, you can help restore the sight of children and adults who need precious eye tissue. Contact your local eye bank today to help raise awareness in your community about the importance of eye donation.
CAMP DOGWOOD VOLUNTEER WEEK
Camp dogwood volunteer week will be April 14—18, 2013. More details will be available soon. Please keep these dates in mind. The beauty of Camp Dogwood can be attributed to the assistance of the many volunteers across the state of North Carolina. This is a great opportunity to share time with other Lions and to make the camp look good for our summer campers.
