Lion Virginia Lee West

Virginia Lee West, 89, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Commons at Brightmore.

Virginia was born February 28, 1924 in Tar Heel, NC, daughter of the late Elvington Briscoe Lee and Myrtle Heath Lee. Her husband, Wallace I. West, Sr., infant son, Charles Elvington West, brother, Robert E. Lee, and two sisters, Daisy Lee Campbell and Margaret Lee Musselwhite, preceded her in death.

Mrs. West was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilmington. She was past president of Wilmington Jaycettes and Wilmington Lions Auxiliary; past vice-president and Chaplain for Cape Fear Garden Club; past president of W.M.U. at First Baptist Church . She was a Jack Stickley Fellow through the North Carolina Lions and past president of the Gardenia Garden Club.

She is survived by two sons, Wallace I. West, Jr. (Valerie) of Charleston, SC, and Donald L. West (Marilyn) of Richmond, VA; three granddaughters, Melany Warfuel (Drew) of Charleston, SC, Jennifer Campbell (Hugh) of Monks Corner, SC, and Anne Kesner (Jim) of Chesapeake, VA; one grandson, Matthew West (Katie) of Richmond, VA; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 12pm Monday, July 29, 2013, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Everette officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia ’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive , Wilmington , NC 28401 , or to First Baptist Church , 411 Market Street , Wilmington , NC 28401 .
