Summer is behind us, school has started and we as Lions are ready for a great year of service to those less fortunate. It is a good time to reflect on what is your dream for the upcoming year. At the Induction ceremony on July 27, I challenged all of the Lions to come up with your dream for the year. What do you want to do as a special activity this year, it may or may not be directly related to the Lions. I encourage each of you to write down what is it that you want to accomplish. Send me your dream and I will make a dream board for the District 31F winter convention. With the collection of dreams, we all will be surprised at what we have accomplished.
At the last Cabinet meeting on Aug 24, Zone Chair Janice Boone announced a membership contest for District 31 F from July 1 to December 31, 2013. For each member that you bring into your club you get one point and if the member is a woman you get another point. The club that gets the greatest percentage increase at the end of December will get a $100 check from the District for you to use for your favorite Service Project. In addition, the names of two of the new members will be drawn and they will get to go to the District 31F convention at no charge. As of Sept 18, the Seven Lakes club is in the lead with a 19% increase and Buies Creek and West Montgomery close behind with a 15% increase. If any club would like a little help with recruiting new members, give DG Vince or the District Membership Chair Gary Greene a call.
I just returned from the USA/Canada Leadership Forum in Overland Park, Kansas from Sept 19-21. There were over 2,000 lions in attendance from USA and Canada. During the 2 day leadership conference, attendees were offered the opportunity to select 7-8 seminars of their choice from about 50 topics. In addition there were 3 inspirational speakers that addressed the group. Later this week I will be sending club presidents and secretaries highlights of the seminars that I attended. I highly recommend club presidents, zone chairs or anyone that is interested in learning more about the Lions organization. Next year’s Leadership Forum is in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sept 11-13, 2014.
There are several things going on in the District and State that you might be interested in knowing about.
1. The VIP Fishing Tournament on the Outer Banks is scheduled for Oct.20-23. It is not too late to volunteer to help at the event or to invite VIPs in your area to go. If you have never participated, it is a blast.
2. The next Cabinet meeting is set for Saturday, November 2 at the Lumberton Lions clubhouse, 1985 Carthage Road at Exit 19 on I-95. Meeting starts at 10 AM and should last for about 2 hours. Come join us for a lite breakfast.
3. On November 9, there is a Council of Governors meeting at the Hampton Inn and Suites located at 200 Columbus Drive in Aberdeen. Meeting starts at 9 am and goes until about 2 pm. This is your chance to learn about the operation of the Lions at the State level. Come join us for lunch and meet some of the other Governors and the State leaders of the North Carolina Lions.
