Essays are restricted to 11th grade students. Essays this year need to address the following quotation from James Madison “What spectacle can be more edifying or more seasonable than that of Liberty and Learning each leaning on the other for their mutual and surest support?”
Essays should be between 350 and 500 words in length.
The local clubs will judge the local school winner.
The winning school essay should be sent to the District Governor for judging on the District level no later than March 15, 2014.
The winning essay from the District will be sent to the State District chair to compete with the other District submissions. Essays are due to the State Celebrate Liberty Chair no later than Aril 1, 2014.
Essays will be judged on the State level to determine the overall State winner. The State winner will be invited to attend the NC Lions State Convention in Asheville on May 31-June 2 to read his/her winning essay. There will be a monetary award for the winning essay.
